Run rituals with Athena: "I choose a podcast to listen to"

Running in the morning is one of my favorite ways to start the day, but I always need a bit of time to ease into it. I need a moment to myself, to wake up a little bit, so I take 30 minutes to prepare myself.

The first thing I do after waking up is hydrate. Usually, it’s a cup of tea, followed by my supplements. If I’m planning a longer run, I’ll have a small bite, maybe a date or half a banana. Running on an empty stomach doesn’t feel great to me, so this light snack keeps me energized without feeling weighed down.

Next, I check that my running watch is fully charged. Then, I’ll make a matcha to sip on while enjoying a quiet moment. On sunny mornings, I love sitting by the window, soaking in the light. Sometimes, I’ll do a bit of foam rolling or gently massage my feet with a small ball, just to loosen up. It’s a grounding moment that helps me connect with my body before heading out.

When I’m ready, I get dressed for the run and choose a podcast to listen to. Podcasts are my go-to for easy runs, they make time fly by. Some of my current favorites are The Skinny Confidential, Oversharing, It's Me Tinx, Call Her Daddy, and the Diary of a CEO. If I’m doing interval training or need an extra boost, I listen to music.

After my run, I take a few minutes to stretch outside before heading back upstairs. Once home, my running clothes go straight into the washing machine, and I jump in the shower. By the time I’ve showered and dressed, I always feel refreshed and accomplished.

Running in the morning truly is the best way to start the day, it sets the tone for everything else.
