She shares her experiences and motivation for those who want to embark on their own running adventure, from training routines to pushing personal boundaries. Here is her running adventure.
Start by signing up to a race
As a veterinary assistant in Amsterdam, my life has always been busy, but since March 2024, running has become an essential part of my routine. My adventure started with a plan to run the Dam to Damloop in 2023 with a friend. This was my first serious experience with running, and it inspired me to continue.
How to stay motivated to run
After the Dam to Damloop, I found my motivation dwindling. Running faded into the background until I came across Sunday Run Club on Instagram. Their positive vibe and sense of community drew me in, and on 10 March 2024, I decided to join. That decision changed my life.
Why you should join a running community
The first training session was an eye-opener. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the feeling of running alongside others was incredibly motivating. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was not only getting fitter but also having a great time. Now, I run 3 to 4 times a week and help with interval training every Tuesday. It’s wonderful to see others grow and support them in their running journeys.
Running as a new way to travel
In the past few months, I’ve completed 13 races, which has only deepened my love for running. My plans for the coming months are even more ambitious: I’m about to participate in the half marathon in Malaga and the half marathon in Ibiza. These races are not only a test of endurance but also an opportunity to discover new places and create memories.
A great way to form adult friendships
I’m also grateful for the amazing friends I’ve met along the way. For example, I’ll be running the half marathon in Malaga with three other friends, and we often meet up outside of running to grab a bite to eat or try other sports together. These friendships have made my running journey even more rewarding and enjoyable.
The road to my first marathon
I’m excited to share that I’ve registered for my first marathon, the Amsterdam Marathon! It’s a milestone I’m looking forward to, and it feels like the perfect way to intensify my running journey. The marathon in my own city will not only be a personal challenge but also an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of Amsterdam while exploring the course with other runners. I can’t wait to take on this adventure and continue pushing my limits!
Running is so much more than just a sport
Running is more than just a sport for me; it’s a way to relieve stress, make new friends, and push my limits. I can’t wait to see where this journey will take me. Whether you’re an experienced runner or just starting out, I encourage you to embrace the adventure. You never know what surprises await you!
